I'd like to point out that the Gulf of Mexico isn't the ocean.
Mostly, though, I love listening to people getting upset that he's not angry.  That always gets me.  Stay calm, kids.

I originally found this at a friend's blog, so I guess I should mention that, huh?

  1. Why isn't the Gulf the Ocean?
It connects and is made of salt water.
I mean the Mediterranean is sort of the ocean, so why not the gulf?

  2. Scientifically, yes, the Gulf is basically the ocean. However, I don't live on the Gulf Coast: I live on the Atlantic Coast. So in my mind, the two are distinct entities, separated by an entire state of marshes and alligators, and I much prefer the ocean, thank you very much.

It's more of a geography snob thing than anything else.

I also occasionally explain to people that LA is really not that close to SF, so I think I'm just getting bitterly defensive about different regions within a state.
